The State University of New York at New Paltz seeks a creative and dynamic leader for the position of Dean of the School of Business. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, The Dean of the School of Business is the chief academic officer of the school, responsible for the academic vision as well as the strategic leadership and operational management of the School. With AACSB accreditation earned in 2013, the Dean’s primary responsibility will be to develop and implement a strategy to advance the excellent reputation of the School of Business and to ensure the delivery of high quality, innovative programs that prepare students for a rapidly changing global business environment. The Dean is an advocate for the School of Business, maintaining and enriching the strong, student-centered culture of the School and ensuring the long-term stability of its programs. 


The Dean must build upon current connections in the business community and continue to foster those linkages through the development of innovative programs and partnerships, working closely with the School’s Business Advisory Council members, industry leaders and other friends of the college. The Dean is expected to work closely with the Development Office to maintain and build alumni and donor relationships and participate in events, helping to cultivate a culture of philanthropy. 


Faculty and staff development is an important aspect of this position. The Dean must effectively advocate for and manage resources in order to recruit, develop and retain a diverse faculty strong in teaching, scholarship and service. The Dean oversees the reappointment, promotion and tenure review processes for faculty and professional staff. Further, the Dean supervises the Business Advisory Center, MBA Program, career services, project development, and administrative support staff in order to influence and shape the delivery of key academic support services that enrich the teaching and learning experiences. The Dean must communicate effectively with all School of Business stakeholders, utilizing a collaborative management style and strong interpersonal skills. 


The Dean of the School of Business works closely with deans and directors of other academic and administrative units on campus to foster a climate of academic excellence and inclusiveness consistent with the SUNY New Paltz mission. As a senior leader, the Dean is expected to participate in a variety of campus activities and guide broader institutional objectives. 


Required Qualifications: 


The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and attributes: 


    * Demonstrated record of accomplishments as an academic leader, reflecting a thorough understanding of the business environment and the field of business education. 
    * D emonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy in a complex environment. 
    * P roven track record of fundraising and development engagement. 
    * E xcellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work collaboratively with constituencies from the School of Business, College and community. 
    * Demonstrated ability to effectively manage staff and faculty, and support professional development. 
    * Evidence of strong fiscal management. 
    * E arned doctorate in Business or a closely related field. 
    * Experience and credentials that would support an appointment to the rank of Professor in the School. 
    * D emonstrated commitment to professional ethics and integrity. 




Business experience or sustained collaboration with business and industry, and experience with AACSB accreditation are preferred.
