2013 SYSBS RESEARCH METHODOLOGY WORKSHOP£º

Mono-level and Multilevel Mediated Moderation and Moderated Mediation:
Theorization and Test

1. About Mediated Moderation and Moderated Mediation

Researchers are increasingly interested in exploring mediated moderation and moderated mediation models to reveal how underlying mechanisms and contingent factors jointly result in organizational phenomena. However, there have been a number of complexities in terms how to achieve theoretical clarity and conduct statistically appropriate tests for these models at both mono- and multi-levels. To provide an informative guide for researchers to theorize and test such models, this workshop reviews the organizational and psychological literatures and elaborate probable combined forms of mediation and moderation. We offer solutions to several salient theoretical and statistical issues that may prevent researchers from clearly and accurately examining these models. Specific conceptual and empirical instructions including Mplus syntaxes and R codes on establishing mono-level and multilevel mediated moderation and moderated mediation models are also provided.

2. About the Workshop and Who Should Attend

This workshop is the 3rd annual workshop sponsored by SYSBS and is a part of the School¡¯s annual symposiums and workshops on frontier management theories and methods provided to all Chinese scholars (mainland and overseas) without any registration fee. The methods workshops are featured with applications-oriented lectures focusing on the latest trends in statistical analysis. Led by a two experts in the field, this year¡¯s workshop aims to tutor scholars about the basic concepts, theory-building, and statistical models related to mono-level and multilevel mediated moderation and moderated mediation in the management field. In addition, the instructors will exemplify how to build and test related statistical models with software MPLUS, as well as how to report and interpret related results.

Reminder: Participants should be familiar with related conventional statistical methods, including regression, structure equation modeling, CFA, and HLM. Familiarity with MPLUS would be helpful but is not required. This workshop will be instructed in Chinese.
