All:

The Geoscience Education Division of the Geological Society of America has established a fund in memory of Iris Moreno Totten, a geoscience education researcher who passed away recently after a long battle with breast cancer. Many of you have asked about how to donate to the fund, so I wanted to pass along a description of the award and instructions for how to donate. Please feel free to forward this email.

We are not sure if the award will be handed out for the first time after the 2013 meeting, or if we will need to wait until 2014.

Take care
Julie

The Iris Moreno Totten Geoscience Education Research Award Fund promotes research in geoscience education, geocognition, or related fields that investigate the ways in which people interact with, understand, and connect to Earth and Earth processes. This award addresses the need to promote and disseminate high quality research into best practices for training the general public and students, fundamental characteristics of how people perceive and interact with the Earth, and relationships between knowledge, affect, and behavior. This award will be given to the author(s) of one or more studies presented at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America. A committee of judges may select at least one paper from all the symposium, theme session, general session and poster session presentations sponsored by the Geoscience Education Division for this award. Undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career faculty and professionals are eligible to receive this award. The award will be presented during the luncheon held by the Geoscience Education Division at the annual GSA meeting.
