Position Title: Visiting Assistant Professor
Working Title: Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow
Position Number: 00206230

Position Overview:

Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows at the University of Kansas are key contributors to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Course Transformation Initiative. The program is intended for individuals with an interest in teaching and education research in their discipline at the higher-education level. These positions are similar to post-doctoral positions except that the emphasis is on teaching and scholarly activities pertaining to teaching. The postdoctoral fellow will implement mechanisms for improving student learning and engagement in large introductory courses. This three-year position involves collaborating with faculty in the Geology Department and in the CLAS Course Transformation Initiative to develop and deliver effective instructional approaches including associated materials and laboratories, in large undergraduate courses, both in-classroom and online, as well as documenting student learning. Teaching innovations may involve using online resources to cover course material outside of class time and releasing face-to-face class time for diverse forms of active learning by students.  The postdoctoral fellow and faculty members who normally teach the course share teaching and course redesign responsibilities. This postdoctoral program is ideal for those interested in pursuing careers in geoscience education; appointments are for three academic years.
