Subject: Two Science Education/Higher Education Postdoctoral Research
Associate positions at Western Michigan University

Please pass on the following announcement to anyone who may be interested.

General Research Area: Change strategies to support instructor use of
evidence-based instruction in undergraduate STEM

Western Michigan University is currently seeking two postdoctoral research
associates to join our research team focused on increasing instructor use of
evidence-based instruction in undergraduate STEM.

Each post doc will work on one of two NSF-funded projects, with
opportunities to interact with the other project. Responsibilities in both
positions include data collection and analysis, as well as development of
manuscripts and presentations related to the project.

For the first project, "WIDER: EAGER: Evidence-based Instructional Practices
at WMU: An Examination of Instructor Practices, Institutional Climate, and
Social Networks", the applicant will play a leadership role in a
multi-disciplinary team that is developing innovative tools to measure
faculty teaching approaches, faculty perceptions of teaching environments,
faculty social networks, and the impact of these on efforts to promote
evidence-based instruction. The postdoc will be jointly supervised by Dr.
Charles Henderson (Physics and Science Education) and Dr. Andrea Beach
(Higher Education and Director of Faculty Development).

For the second project, "Collaborative Research: Sustainable Diffusion of
Research-Based Instructional Strategies: A Rich Case Study of SCALE-UP", the
applicant will play a leadership role in a multi-institutional research team
studying the implementation of research-based instructional strategies in
higher education. This position will also involve responsibilities related
to the development of a multidisciplinary research center focused on
post-secondary instructional change. The postdoc will be supervised by Dr.
Charles Henderson (Physics and Science Education).

Successful candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in STEM education or a
related field. The ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in and
experience in the study and/or promotion of STEM education reform at the
post-secondary level.

Appointments are full time and will be made for a period of up to two years.
Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and experience. The start
date for the position is flexible, with a desired start date in Summer 2013.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled. All applicants will be considered for both positions;
please note any preferences in your cover letter.
