Hmm, yeah, digging through accounts, turns out the account our department has that we register all our computers under got that message.  Guess I better deal with that before they deactivate it, otherwise it could become a big headache :).

OK, I have some more details,

This message was sent out to Affiliate accounts, apparently.  I eventually had to dig into the headers to figure this out.  This message was sent out to what are called Affiliate IDs, or IDs associated with a department or college, but not an individual person.  I had to display the full MIME headers of the message to determine that this was being sent to an MSU NetID we have set up for our Technology Services office.  In most cases, those affiliate NetIDs are forwarded to one or more people responsible for managing or maintaining those general accounts.

So, if you got one of these, go back to the original message and have your email system display the full headers, then dig into the header info to locate the actual MSU Email / Net ID it was directed at.  FYI.

I personally received one, as have others in the building that are current staff.  I’m not sure if there was a glitch with the automated email, or the Dean’s office has just been slow to get me a box for my crap.

Subject: [MSUNAG] MSU NetID expiration message.

I've gotten messages from several users who infrequently use their MSU email account, asking if this is a legitimate message or a phishing attempt.  Has anyone else seen this, and are these official messages from MSU IT Services?  They don't normally send links to forms asking for personal information and IDs, yet the contact form listed below does ask for a person's name and MSU NetID.  Several people who received this were afraid to use the form or fill it out.

Any additional information?
