If you sell fresh produce (fruit or vegetable) this can apply to you. Rules that may require a farm to be GAP certified (Good Ag Practices) are being made based on farm gross income, miles to point of sale (restaurant). The point of GAP is to educate and guide farmers to sell the safest food possible. Then if a form of contamination occurred, a system would be in place to facilitate recall of produce from the point of contamination. Read on and see if you agree with the current proposed regulations from the Food Modernization Act.


Reminder: Comment Period Deadline is February 15 for Draft Qualitative Risk Assessment under Proposed Rule on Preventive Controls (Human Food)

On January 16, 2013, FDA announced in the Federal Register the availability of, and requested comment on, a document entitled “Draft Qualitative Risk Assessment of Risk of Activity/Food Combinations for Activities (Outside the Farm Definition) Conducted in a Facility Co-Located on a Farm.” The purpose of the draft risk assessment is to provide a science-based risk analysis of those activity/food combinations that could be considered low risk. Electronic or written comments on the draft risk assessment are due by February 15, 2013.
