Resisting Resistance.  Overcoming Antibiotic Resistance

with Small Molecules

Resistance to antibiotics is among the greatest challenges to modern health care. Resistance to all classes of antibiotics has emerged while new antibiotic drug discovery has lagged resulting in a growing crisis.  To address this challenge, new approaches to antibiotic drug discovery and new therapeutic strategies need to be considered.  Once such approach is the combination of bioactive compounds with antibiotics to overcome resistance, such antibiotic adjuvants have the capacity to extend the life and spectrum of known drugs.  Our efforts to block resistance directly and indirectly using small molecule antibiotic adjuvants will be presented.
