National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC ) is a great organization. Many organic farmers rely on their news to know what is happening on Capital Hill that can or may impact organic farming, markets and certification. They are offering a suggestion to us to contact our congress and remind then of the importance to:

  1. Get the 2012 farm bill passed ASAP
  2. Include Organic Cost share that helps organic farmers afford certification and organic research funds in the next Farm bill

Subject: Isn't it time to get back to work?

No more elections. No more endless campaign commercials, debates, and discussions.

Finally, Congress is back on Capitol Hill – let’s hope they’re ready to get to work!

Here's the information about your Representative you need to make the call:

Rep. Mike Rogers
(202) 225-4872

Simply dial the number above and tell the person who answers that you’d like to share a personal message for your Representative, such as this:

“Hello, my name is _____. I’m a constituent and a voter (and tell ‘em if you’re a farmer!). I’m calling to ask Representative ______ to help get the 2012 Farm Bill finished, and to ensure that the 2012 Farm Bill levels the playing field for America’s family farmers. We need a farm bill that invests in beginning farmers, supports local and regional food systems development, protects conservation funding, and recognizes the role of family farmers in strengthening rural and urban communities. Thank you!”

What’s on the legislative agenda for the lame duck session? Together, we can make sure the 2012 Farm Bill is on that list.<http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=sAvD1zZ91LJ1oyG9p3FeTKQ0CBAzEZDg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Fbetterfarmbill> Because there’s too much at stake for it to get left behind – including the future of healthy farms, food, and people for our nation.

Yesterday we delivered over 20,000 signatures to Congress from farmers, ranchers, and concerned citizens calling for an equitable, sustainable 2012 Farm Bill. But we’re not finished yet! <http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=PYb448bRHnjyZzVCMupJIlZZTzwEFGOf&url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Fbetterfarmbill> It’s time to drive that message home.<http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=ncEb%2Fkc1JTNRIGpJzqS76KQ0CBAzEZDg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Fbetterfarmbill>

Join us on this national day of action! Make one call today (and ask one friend to join you!), and together, we can make sure that Congress finishes their work on a 2012 Farm Bill - one that invests in healthy farms, food, and people; protects our precious air, soil, and water; and reforms farm subsidies and levels the playing field.

Can you imagine the impact we’ll have with thousands of calls flooding into Congress in only one day? We’ll be making a unified statement – one that Congress can’t ignore: We want a farm bill done this year, and we want it done right.

Thank you for all you do,

Sarah and Shavaun, The NSAC Grassroots Team
