Prof. Fert shared the Nobel Prize for the discovery of Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR), which led to development of record capacities of computer hard disk memory and to the new sciences of Spintronics.  He will explain what Spintronics is about, and describe plans for its use in computing and communications.
