Dear Colleagues,

The preliminary program for our AIB-MENA 3rd annual conference is attached below for your reference. The dates for the conference are January 12-14, 2013 and details are available on the following website http://www.uowdubai.ac.ae/aib/details.php?sec=5,3 . We will be opening registration shortly. The submission system is still open for those interested but we only accept full or nearly completed papers. Please note the conference paper is double blind reviewed.

We are associated with the International Journal of Emerging Markets which will sponsor the best paper award and publish some of the best papers. We have organized a Journal of International Business (JIBS) Paper development workshop. JIBS is the official publication of the Academy of International Business and has a 2011 impact factor of 3.557. The workshop facilitators are the JIBS Consulting Editor, Prof. David Ralston and Prof. Beth Rose, AIB Board member.  We will have a case study writing workshop run by KCC, American University in Cairo and the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies. We have organized 3 high profile industry/academic panel sessions.

You may also not want to miss the rare book tour. They have a first edition of Cyclopaedia, or an Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences and Description de l'Égypte (English: Description of Egypt) which was a series of publications, appearing first in 1809 and continuing until the final volume appeared in 1829, which offered a comprehensive scientific description of ancient and modern Egypt as well as its natural history. It is the collaborative work of about 160 civilian scholars and scientists, known popularly as the savants, who accompanied Napoleon's expedition to Egypt in 1798 to 1801 as part of the French Revolutionary Wars, as well as about 2000 artists and technicians, including 400 engravers, who would later compile it into a full work. There are many more treasures to see. The URBAN LAND CAMPUS tour will appeal to those interested in sustainability, learning environments and architecture.

Our 3rd edition of the book “Actions and Insights: Middle East North Africa – East meets West” will be distributed at this conference. The book has cases like Aramex (the first and only Arab company to be listed on NASDAQ), GE and their social media campaign in KSA for breast cancer; Americana and the challenges of operating a QSR in Mecca especially during the Haj; PESICO AMEA and the role of packaging for the Pepsi brand, Lammtara Pictures – makers of Freej – ME’s first 3D animated cartoon,   Impression et Enregistrement des Résultats (IER), the leading provider of self-service terminals and kiosks for major transport networks, automatic identification and traceability solutions for controlling flows and goods for production lines and logistics operators & GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft,  one of the largest system providers for food and energy processes with about EUR 5.4 billion revenue in 2011.

The recommended hotel is Dusit Thani LakeView in New Cairo which is very close to the AUC campus and far from Tahrir Square where most of the demonstrations happen. Hotel details are available at: http://www.dusit.com/dusit-thani/dusit-thani-lakeview-cairo.html. The excellent AUC team has negotiated a very special rate for AIB-MENA delegates. They are as follows: Single Room: US$ 135 and Double Room: US$ 145. Note: No bed only reservations are available. Please make sure when you book reservations:

1 –  Participants should contact AUC Travel office for hotel reservation to get the AUC rates
