(Conference organized by BDISIRN[1] and CRIE[2], with the support of Fundação Araucária, IBEPES, UTFPR’s Green Office and the Graduate Schools of Business of Universidade Positivo and UFPR).

Conference goals:

The conference aims to promote academic reflection and to improve knowledge about internationalization, sustainability and innovation, adopting different perspectives in analyzing those issues and trying to understand the relationships among them. For the purpose of this conference, we intend to consider sustainable actions and analyze innovative practices that lead to the reduction of social and environmental unbalance and to the improvement of well-being and the education for sustainability. Therefore, the conference is an open forum that welcomes “multiple voices” that are willing to discuss the transformation of organizational practices and the mobilization of civil society towards a more active role in determining its own sustainable future.

Considering a post-Rio+20 context, papers dealing with Internationalization, Sustainability, Innovation and Technology are all welcome, especially if they can integrate two or three of these issues. As provocatively stated in the conference’s title (“Sustainable internationalization/Internationalization of sustainability”), this conference intends to discuss the competitive edge that can be achieved by adopting sustainable practices in the global market.

This event will accept two kinds of submissions:

·       Academic papers: submitted abstracts should provide evidence of a strong concern with methodology (need to be scientific). Abstracts need to have an introduction section in which there is some contextualization and the presentation of the objective, literature review concerning previous work on the subject, methodological procedures, analysis of empirical data (if applicable) and conclusions.

·       Cases of entrepreneurial/executive/social (NGO) experiences: submitted abstracts should present solutions to practical problems in companies or non-governmental organizations. In this case, authors should be more concerned with the practical lessons that can be taken from their actions, which can help other practitioners. Such abstracts should not aim just at promoting the organizations. The innovation and sustainability of the proposed practices have to be very clear for the initiative to be chosen for presentation at the conference.

Submissions should be made in the form of extended abstracts (from 2.000 to 3.000 words) through the following URL: https://pt.surveymonkey.com/s/BDISIRN_AbstractUpload. Abstracts must be submitted in the English language.

Important dates:

Expanded abstract submission deadline: October 8, 2012.

Acceptance notice: October 15, 2012.

Registration to the conference (through the conference’s web site):

·       until October, 22: US$ 45.00 (or R$ 90.00)

·       from October, 23 to November, 14: US$ 60.00 (or R$120.00)

·       at the conference: US$ 75.00 (or R$ 150.00)

In an effort to make our event accessible to everyone, students who feel they cannot afford the registration costs should send the organizing committee a letter explaining their reasons. A decision will be made about the possibility of waiving the registration fee.

Also, in an attempt to make the event more inclusive, some Brazilian students have offered to host international doctoral or master students who are travelling on a budget, during their stay in the country, in order to reduce their expenses. Those interested should indicate that as soon as possible, because priority will be given to those who register first. If possible, we will also be happy to try and accommodate interested Brazilian students from other regions of the country.
