Invitation
The University of Miami’s Department of International Studies (INS), Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), Center for Hemispheric Policy (CHP), Center for International Business Education and Research (UM CIBER), and the Canadian Consulate in Miami, are pleased to invite you to participate in the “Energy Security and Environmental Policy in the Americas” Academic Conference on December 5-6, 2012 to be held at the University of Miami in South Florida.
Purpose of the Academic Conference
Academic Scholars will share findings and concepts/frameworks emerging from ongoing research and studies pertaining to key trends, opportunities and challenges affecting energy security and environmental policy in the Americas. The best submissions will be included in a book to be published in 2013.
Topics of the Academic Conference
1- Energy Security: International Markets, Foreign Policy, Military and Corporate Strategies
2- Energy Security in the Americas: Current Situation, Policies, Potential and Limitations
3- Energy Security in Specific Countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, United States, and Venezuela
4- Energy Security in the Americas within a Global Context: Central Asia, China, Europe, India, Japan, Middle East, and Russia
5- Energy Alternatives and Sustainable Development: Carbon Footprint, Renewable Energy, and Other Sources
Call for Abstracts/Resumes
If you wish to present at the Academic Conference, please submit a 5-page, double-spaced, single-sided abstract of your proposed paper, as well as a 250-word biographical sketch to [log in to unmask]. All submissions will be reviewed by the organizing committee which includes Drs. Bruce Bagley, Chair of International Studies at the University of Miami, and Joseph Ganitsky, Director of UM CIBER.
Important Dates
1- Submitting abstracts: Monday, October 15, 2012
2- Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by Wednesday, October 31, 2012
3- Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 15, 2012
4- Academic Conference: Wednesday. December 5-Thursday, December 6, 2012
