Two
positions at the Department of Global Economics and Management (Assistant/Associate
professor (tenuretrack))




 





 




1          Department





The Department of Global
Economics and Management is an active and prominent research group in Europe.
Central research themes are international business, FDI, trade, comparative
institutional analysis, and (new) economic geography. The use and development
of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and measurement and data
development are the central subjects of many research projects. About 1/3 of
the 70 faculty members is non-Dutch, and support staff is used to communicate
in English. More than 80% of the PhD students are from outside of the
Netherlands. Members of the department have published in a wide range of top journals
including the Academy of Management Journal. Strategic Management Journal,
Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies,
British Journal of Industrial Relations, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice,
Corporate Governance: An International Review, Journal of International
Economics, Journal of Economic Geography, Journal of Economic Literature,
Review of Economics and Statistics, and Journal of Development Economics,
amongst others.



                The department is responsible
for capstone courses in two Bachelor programs, i.e. the self-standing Bachelor
program in IB, and the IE&B track in the Economics and Business Economics
bachelor program. On top of these BA courses, the department is directly
responsible for two related master programs, one in IB, and one in
international economics. In addition, the department participates in the Research Master program, a
challenging 2-year master program intended for students aiming at a PhD. In
sum, members of the department participate in both undergraduate and graduate
programs. 



 




2             Tasks and responsibilities (job
description):





Currently
the department has two vacant tenure track positions. Candidates
are expected to strengthen the position of the department Global Economics and
Management (GEM). Candidates have the ability to conduct high quality, original
research and publish it in high-ranked international journals. Time for
research is allocated according to standardized faculty procedures, which
guarantees initially 50% time for research during the tenure track period. Responsibilities include
teaching in the bachelor and master programs of the department. All MSc programs
are taught in English. 



 



Position 1: International Monetary
Economics (IME). This field is inherently international in scope and represents
a core field in International Economics. The combination of both microeconomic
as well as macroeconomic aspects is critical to innovative analyses in the
field of IME. Examples are research on the performance of financial
institutions, the determinants and consequences of (cross-border) mergers and
acquisitions, bailout policies of failed institutions and consequences for
moral hazard, models of internationalization for financial institutions etc.



The
candidate must possess Broad and outstanding knowledge in the field of
International Monetary Economics



 



Position 2: International Business (Strategy). Also
this field is inherently international in scope, covering topics such as the
internationalization processes of firms, characteristics of the international
business environment, the entry and establishment modes of multinational firms,
and their growth and spread across the globe in response to international
economic characteristics. The department research focus is on the linkages
between (informal) institutional characteristics and dynamics and
MNE-activities in distinctive globalizing industries The ideal candidate must
possess broad and outstanding knowledge in
the field of International Business. 



 



 



 



To qualify candidates should have:



1.       Ph.D. in International
Economics (position 1) or International Business, Strategy (position 2) or a
related discipline;



2.      
Expertise
in the field of International Economics (position 1) or International Business
(Strategy)( position 2), demonstrated by international academic publications,
preferably in top tier or very good, refereed journals.



3.       Proven excellent
teaching skills;



4.       International network;



5.       Organizational qualities
and excellent communication skills.



6.       Active involvement in
obtaining external funding for research projects.



 



 



Tenure
track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are temporary
positions subject to a tenure decision after the period of six years. Formal
Tenure track requirements include criteria with respect to research prominence,
teaching and external funds raising activities. During the Tenure track period
50% of the position is reserved for research and 50% is devoted to teaching
activities. Potential candidates will preferably have a research profile either
in International Economics or in International Business (Strategy). 



 



 



 



3.
Employment conditions



 



The
University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work
experience starting from a minimum of € 3,195 gross per month (salary scale 11)
to a maximum of € 4,970 gross per month (salary scale 12) for a full-time
position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus and
participation in a pension scheme for employees.



 



You will be appointed for a period of six years, on
condition of a positive mid-term evaluation in the third year of
employment.  On the basis of a positive final evaluation in the sixth year
of employment, you will be granted tenure.







Once
a candidate is selected the actual starting in this job is as soon as possible.
