If you are teaching Intl. Bus/Mgmt./Mkt./Ent in late 2012, consider enhancing learning in your course and boosting your research productivity by participating in the X-Culture project.

The idea is very simple: We team up students enrolled in IB courses around the world and they work for a semester in virtual teams of about 7 (7 students, 7 countries) to develop an international business opportunity proposal for an organization of the team’s choice (untapped promising markets, analysis of economic, political, cultural environment of the proposed market, recommendations with respect to product, marketing, staffing, etc.).

The project is designed to give students an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in cross-cultural collaboration. It is also an excellent platform for research (longitudinal multi-level multi-source data collected) and professional and inter-institutional collaboration.

About 1,500 from 40+ universities in 30+ countries participate in X-Culture in a given semester (roughly 30% MBA and EMBA, the rest undergraduates in 3rd or 4th year).

Detailed information about the project can be found at http://www.vtaras.com/x-culture.html

We provide all the materials and administrative support; you mentor your students (instructions, questions, grading reports, etc.).

Participation is completely free – but expect to invest a considerable amount of time and energy.

The schedule will be set once the participants list is finalized. Students will likely be assigned to an “early” track (approx. mid-August through early or mid-October) or “late” track (approx. first days October through last days of November).

IMPORTANT: The returning instructors from 25+ countries are already confirmed to participate in the upcoming semester and we can only accept a handful of new participants. Priority will be given to instructors from under-represented regions (applications from Africa and Asia are particularly welcome), as well as to instructors with strong research background.

English is the working language. Students who do not speak English may be able to participate under special arrangements (e.g., all Italian team or teams that use Spanish or French for communication).

Consider also attending a session on X-Culture at the upcoming AOM meeting in Boston to meet the X-Culture team and ask questions (just search the program for “X-Culture” for time/place).
