*Call for Submissions:
Association of Japanese Business Studies Paper Development Workshop*

* *

*DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 4, 2012*

The Association of Japanese Business Studies (AJBS) will hold a Paper
Development Workshop, on June 28, 2012, in Washington DC. This special PDW
is held in conjunction with the AJBS annual conference (which runs the
evening of June 28 through noon of the 30th), immediately preceding the
annual meeting of the Academy of International Business (AIB, June 30—July
3). Detailed information on the AJBS and AIB Conferences is located at
each organizations website: http://aib.msu.edu/events/2012/ or
http://ajbs.org/Conf._Registration_FAQ.php.

The AJBS PDW aims to provide advice to scholars who are currently
undertaking research in the broad area of *Japanese business* and who
intend to publish their research in international journals. The PDW will
offer scholars the opportunity to receive feedback on their work, through
round-table sessions with established and internationally active scholars,
as well as insights into international publishing, methods and topics,
through panel discussions and presentations. The PDW also aims to promote
and strengthen research ties between Japan-based and international
researchers, and to stimulate discussion on current topics of interest to
scholars in the field of Japanese business.

As currently planned, the structure of the AJBS PDW is as follows:
Morning session: Presentations by leading scholars, addressing various
topics including publishing strategies, research agendas, and
methodologies;
Afternoon session: Participants and senior faculty split up into smaller
groups to discuss current research topics and exchange feedback on
submitted papers and research ideas.

Submission to the AJBS PDW is open to both faculty (regardless of rank) and
Ph.D. candidates. Submissions may be of two types: shorter research
proposals (maximum 3,000 words) or longer papers (maximum 40 pages). The
shorter research proposals should include specification of a research
question, literature review and hypotheses, research design and methods,
and expected contributions. Longer papers should be fully developed,
including literature review, data and analysis, references, etc. Any topic
or empirical focus is welcome, as long as it involves business-related
issues relevant to Japan or Japanese companies. Papers do *not* have to
pertain to international business, but must be in English.

*The deadline for submissions is May 4, 2012*. Submissions should use 12 pt
Times New Roman font, 1-inch (2.5 cm) margins and double-spacing. The above
word and page limitations include all tables and figures. Submissions,
along with the participant’s CV and list of research interests and
publications, should be sent to Professor Gary Knight (

text files). Authors will be notified of acceptance by May 7, 2012. The
fee for the PDW is $25. You must be a member of the AJBS (membership must
be current through June 2012) to participate ($30 for students; $50 for
faculty).
