CALL FOR PAPERS The 5th Rikkyo University International Business Studies Symposium June 27 - 28, 2012 "Global Business and Global Leadership: Theory and Practice" KEYNOTE SPEAKER*: Dr. Richard M. Steers Professor Emeritus of Organization and Management, Lundquist College of Business, University of Oregon * Professor Steers will address his keynote speech in the evening on June 27, 2012. ----------------------------------- ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM THEME "Global Business and Global Leadership: Theory and Practice" The past several years have witnessed a myriad of challenges for global companies. Some of those challenges are economic; some are political. In both cases, global companies increasingly require the services of managers and executives who can help create competitive firms, and who can lead people in support of mutually beneficial goals. This includes both large and small organizations. While most people agree that all business is global, we often overlook the fact that all managers must also be global, and at the heart of this reality is the requirement that managers be able to work effectively across borders. Today's companies require global leaders who have a global outlook, and who can manage in highly complex environments. Unfortunately, we are still learning how global leadership works-or fails to work-in such environments. We need new information and new theories aimed at better understanding both leadership dynamics and leadership development. Such is the purpose of this conference. ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM DETAILS SUBMISSION: We welcome submissions of full-length papers of up to 5,000 words or a detailed abstract of 1,200-1,500 words exploring the conference theme. Particular emphasis is placed on international dimensions of Japanese and Asian firms. All submissions will be evaluated through double-blind reviews based on the following criteria: relevance of the topic to the symposium theme, analytical rigor, and innovativeness. Both full papers and abstracts should follow the writing-style guidelines set for the Journal of International Business Studies (see www.jibs.net). Those submitting full-length papers are encouraged to contribute their manuscripts to the special issue of Rikkyo Business Review, a peer-reviewed journal published by College of Business, Rikkyo University. SCHEDULE & FORMAT: The two-day symposium involves both academia and industry in exploring various issues and challenges for today's global business ranging from management, organization, and leadership. The first day will set the tone with the keynote speech by Dr. Richard M. Steers, a noted organizational scholar, who also serves as the Editor of the Journal of World Business. The second day will be devoted to the paper sessions organized around a number of sub-themes. Most programs will be open to public, including students, faculty members, and industry representatives. COST: There will be no registration fee to participate in the symposium, though the participants are supposed to cover the travel and accommodation expenses on their own. Information about registration will be provided in early May.
