All are invited and welcome to attend this seminar. Note that you do not have to register to attend. The Plant and Soil Science Building is just next to the Children's Garden on MSU Campus. If you do not have a MSU sticker for parking you can park in the Children's garden lot using the meters. You can purchase tokens for the meters at the Children's Garden. Wish parking wasn't so complicated. Hope you can come if you are interested.
Cheers
Vicki

Hello everyone,

Dr. Nancy Creamer, the Distinguished Professor of Sustainable and Community-based Food Systems in the Department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University and Director of the Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS), will be speaking in the Spring 2012 Horticulture/Crop and Soil Sciences seminar series at Michigan State University.  Her seminar, “Building a Local Food Economy in North Carolina,” will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012, from 4:10-5 pm in room A149 of the Plant and Soil Sciences Building.  This seminar is free and open to the public.  Dr. Creamer has been invited by the Horticulture Organization of Graduate Students of the Department of Horticulture at MSU.  Her broad research interests include the transition to organic production, the use of cover crops in vegetable production, and long-term farming systems; she has produced over 20 peer-refereed publications on these topics in the past 15 years.  She is currently active in researching local food economies.  Established in 1994, the mission of CEFS is “to develop and promote food and farming systems that protect the environment, strengthen local communities, and provide economic opportunities in North Carolina and beyond.”  CEFS is comprised of six units including the Organic Research Unit and the Farming Systems Research Unit and provides both research opportunities and demonstration models.  For more information about the seminar, please contact Erin Haramoto at [log in to unmask].
