Subject: Farm Bill to be Proposed by Nov.1!

Hello Everyone,

In the last few months I have been talking to farmers throughout Michigan and Ohio. We have had several meetings with key Congress people in both states and on Capitol Hill, but now things are moving fast with a new deadline of November 1st! Please be in touch with me if you have any insights. You can call my cell anytime too. 313-525-2372. Please read the email I am forwarding from Udi Lazimy, our National Policy Organizer:

Friends,

I wanted to fill you in, if you haven't already heard, about the current state of the 2012 Farm Bill. In a nutshell, the House and Senate Agriculture Committees submitted a joint letter to the Congressional Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (a.k.a. the "Super Committee") on Monday (Oct. 15), notifying the Super Committee that they will be providing a complete 2012 Farm Bill legislative package by NOVEMBER 1st!

The letter is attached for your reference.

This is just a heads-up that I will be circulating an action alert in the next couple of days that I hope you will circulate to everyone in your networks. It is critically important that members of the House and Senate Agriculture committees hear from supporters of organic farming about the importance of investing in organic programs in the 2012 Farm Bill.

Please stay tuned, oil the gears and prime the pumps. The next two weeks might be our best shot for mobilizing around the organic programs that matter so much to so many.

Thank you,
