I?m trying to assist a colleague to get a MSU Community ID.  I thought in the past that this meant you got an MSUNet ID, for lack of a better term, that had fewer permissions and no email account, but that would let someone not officially affiliated with the university collaborate with MSU colleagues on Angel, to give one example.  In other words, I thought you got a neutered [log in to unmask] account. I also thought a department on campus had to initiate the request, vouch for the individual, and pay for the ID.

I just read http://techbase.msu.edu/article.asp?id=9643&service and it says nothing about getting a [log in to unmask] account.  So I went through the process of signing up for a Community ID in order to clarify. I entered my personal Gmail account as requested, got a confirmation email at said account, clicked the link, answered the security question and was told the account was created. I was never given a [log in to unmask] account. I never received an email giving me such an account, either.

Logging into Angel I find I can choose Community ID as a login domain. When I choose it and click the button to login, I'm still given a form box followed by @msu.edu to login to.

What's going on?  Have I misunderstood this all along, or has something changed recently?  If you truly use your non-MSU email to login, why is @msu.edu still following the login choice after choosing Community ID as the domain?

Thanks for the clarification.
