Greetings,
We're very excited to offer a pre-conference short course at this year's Geological Society of America annual meeting on Virtual Field Experiences in Geoscience Education. I've attached a flyer with basic information and pasted it in below.

The workshop is October 8 in Minneapolis immediately prior to GSA.

The full-day program includes instructors from NASA, Google, classroom teachers, college and university faculty and museum educators who are creating and using virtual fieldwork in their teaching. I think it will be a great program and at $50 is a real bargain.

There's also a webpage for the short course with the overview and links for registration here: http://virtualfieldwork.org/GSA_Short_Course_2011.html

Please share with your networks. K-12 teachers may register for only short course and also receive a great discount for registration for the full GSA meeting.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Don

Virtual Field Experiences in Geoscience Education

Short Course Abstract:
The development of virtual field experiences (VFEs) by K-12 teachers and faculty within both formal and informal institutions produces a valuable set of resources for today’s earth-science educators and their students. VFEs perfectly supplement classroom curricula by reinforcing content while providing avenues to explore inquiry and the nature of science. Topics presented within the short course will include the goal of VFEs and their use in geoscience education and research; the “nuts and bolts” of VFE design, including strategies, techniques, and technologies; and geocognition research in visualization and VFE design and use.
