Thanks for this. I have been trying to google the problem with no really good hits. This thread is the closest I’ve seen to my issue. Alas the question wasn’t really answered. Ah well. Can anyone else confirm that they are indeed able to schedule appointments in Outlook 2010 when their machine does not have an internet connection?

Thanks,

Al

Closes I could find was this thread with a similar issue with 2007. It appeared that for cache mode to work with calendars and contacts, the user had to manually set Outlook to offline. If the setting isn’t made, then Outlook runs as disconnected, and periodically try to reconnect.

If this doesn’t help I would consider re-syncing the OST file. Perhaps there is some corruption in there.

It’s the user’s personal folders, either calendar or contacts. Both do the same thing.

Are you trying to update a shared or Public folder calendar? Or is it the user’s personal calendar?

Subject: [MSUNAG] Can't Add or update calendar entries, Contacts if Outlook is Offline?

Hi all,

Basically, trying to figure out if something is misconfigured here. This is the deal: We are using Exchange 2010. Our machines are running Outlook 2010 in Cached Exchange Mode. If we take a laptop and completely disconnect it from the internet, we are able to read cached copies of email messages, and queue new messages for later sending. We can view calendar entries and contacts; However, we can’t create or update calendar entries or contacts. Attempting to do so results in the.  “Outlook must be online to complete this action” message. I could swear this used to work at some point; but over the past year, we’ve upgraded from Exchange 2003 to 2010, and from Office 2003 to 2010. If at some point during that time I did something to break it, I’m not even sure how to begin troubleshooting it now.

Thanks for any thoughts,
