I love using an iPad as an away from home computer. The battery life is just great. You could get around typing on the screen with one of the Bluetooth keyboard cases. The likely issues could be backups of data on the iPad (Keep all docs in google docs/dropbox etc/sync to laptop occasionally), or if she would want to view pictures from a digital cameras etc (accessory available for this). And, I'm not really sure if you can update the iPad OS without tethering it to a computer. Modem is a good question, havn't seen one for iPad or others. Most people end up tethering to their phones, which prob won't work for her. -----Original Message----- From: Jerry McAllister [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Tuesday, July 26, 2011 4:51 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [MSUNAG] Tablet as an email / web browsing device On Tue, Jul 26, 2011 at 04:08:18PM -0400, John Valenti wrote: > Pardon me for my dinosaur-ways, but I don't know anyone that is using a tablet as their primary computer... > > I'm trying to advise an MSU retiree. The main limitation for me is I hate to type anything of more than a few charaters length on them. ////jerry > > I think she is drawn to the tablet due to the light weight and ease of carrying around town. > > She spends some time in the UP, it is still a dialup world there ... anyway to connect a modem to an iPad? > > thanks for any comments!
