Dear member of UNCTAD's World Investment Network (WIN):

On 20-22 April 2012, UNCTAD will organize its third biennial World Investment Forum (WIF 2012) in conjunction with UNCTAD’s XIII Ministerial Conference (UNCTAD XIII, 21-26 April 2012) in Doha, Qatar.

UNCTAD's WIF is the most important event of the international investment community and its stakeholders. It provides an opportunity and unique platform to interact with global leaders, senior policy-makers, corporate executives, investors and heads of investment promotion agencies from countries around the world. WIF 2010 attracted over 1,800 participants from 120 countries, including Heads of States, ministers, global CEO's, heads of international organisations and eminent leading international investment experts (the report on WIF 2010, can be downloaded from here).It is expected that the WIF 2012 will attract an even higher level and larger scale of participation.  

WIF 2012 will focus on the role of investment in the new development paradigm, of reinvigorated industrial policies, increased South-South cooperation and inclusive and low-carbon growth models . It will address investment-related challenges and opportunities arising from emerging global economic governance structures, and contribute to developing partnerships and policy options for promoting sustainable investment.

Major WIF 2012 events include:

I. The World Leaders Investment Summit, which will deliberate on the role of international investment in the post-crisis era (21 April 2012).
II. Ministerial Roundtable, which will consider the interaction between investment policy, enterprise development policies and industrial policies (22 April 2012).
III. High-level Tripartite Conference, which will look into attracting and benefiting from FDI and non-equity forms of foreign investment (22 April 2012).
IV. The 2012 International Investment Agreements Conference, which will focus on the future of the international investment regime (22 April 2012).
V. The 10th session of the Investment Advisory Council (IAC), which will concentrate on pro-poor “impact” investment (21 April 2012).
VI. The meeting on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR), which will consider corporate transparency and accounting from the perspective of investment promotion and economic development (22 April 2012).

WIF 2012 will also offer ample opportunity for large and small investors, policy-makers, negotiators, counsels, lawyers, civil society, academia, stock exchange regulators, media – to intermingle, network and connect with each other. Related features are:
