‘Managing in the New Economy: Exploring the Indian Context’

December 18-20, 2011 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

 

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: JULY 31, 2011

 

The Indian Academy of Management (the Indian regional affiliate of the Academy of Management) invites submissions for its 2011 conference. The conference will focus on the issues of organizing in the context of fast growth emerging economies. Establishing the primacy of the context in organizing, this conference seeks to bring together scholars engaged in research on rapid growth organizations in emerging economies. Submissions may take the form of competitive papers, work-in-progress, panel proposals and proposals for Doctoral colloquium.  All Submissions will be reviewed based on originality, rigour and relevance. All accepted papers will be presented at the conference.

 

Given the contextual slant of the conference, academic contributions are invited on the following tracks.

1.       Managing public service organizations

a.       Organizing for public-private partnerships

b.      Managing not-for-profit organizations

c.       Corporate Social Responsibility and its implications for regional development

d.      Managing public sector/ government organizations

2.       Entrepreneurship

a.       Managing new ventures in rapid growth contexts

b.      Issues in professionalization of firms during fast growth

c.       Relationships between professional managers and non-executive owners

d.      Managing professional managers and owner-professionals

e.      Succession in family-owned-businesses (FOBs)

3.       International business and managing MNC subsidiaries in India

a.       Evolving structure, culture, systems and processes  that reflect the organizational origins as well as the local context

b.      Managing parent subsidiary relationships in fast growth environments

c.       Managing MNC captive units

4.       Managing knowledge work

a.       Issues and challenges in managing knowledge-work

b.      Managing careers for knowledge-workers

c.       Challenges in managing out-sourced knowledge processes

5.       Innovation for fast growth

a.       Managing innovation in rapid growth organizations

b.      Creating an eco-system for innovation in the context of rapid growth

c.       National innovation systems

6.       Characterizing rapid growth firms

a.       Are there special features and characteristics of rapid growth firms?

b.      What enables rapid growth firms to outgrow their industry peers?

c.       What factors facilitate rapid growth firms to sustain their growth rates despite global recessions and industry shocks?

7.       Potpourri

a.       Eclectic mix of papers that reflect managing in the emerging economy context

Submission Guidelines

·         All submissions must be made online at www.iimb.ernet.in/iam2011 no later than July 31, 2011 at 11:59 pm Indian Standard Time. The deadline is firm and no extensions will be granted.

·         Papers should not have been previously accepted, published, presented, or be under review for another meeting or journal. Subsequent publication, with proper acknowledgement, is encouraged.

·         If a paper is accepted, at least one author must register and present their work at the conference.

·         No participant is allowed to be included as an author, presenter, session chair, discussant, etc. in more than three program sessions.

·         The maximum length of competitive paper submissions is 25 pages. This limit includes the body of the text, notes, and appendices. It excludes the abstract, references, tables and figures. In the case of working papers, the maximum length is up to 15 pages and for panel proposals, the maximum limit is 10 pages. The proposals for the doctoral colloquium should not exceed 20 pages. Paper format should follow the Academy of Management Journal’s Style Guide (see http://journals.aomonline.org/amj/style_guide.pdf). Nonconforming submissions will be returned without review.

·         Manuscripts should be double spaced with 1 inch margins on all four sides. Manuscripts should be prepared in Times New Roman font, size 12.

·         The entire paper must be in a single document created in Microsoft Word.

·         Paper submissions will be blind reviewed; thus, no author names or other identifying information should appear anywhere in the manuscript. This does not apply to panel proposals or other formats, which are not blind-reviewed.

·         Early bird registration date – September 30, 2011;

·         Regular registration date – November 30, 2011; and
