Subject: [oeffadirect] Pastured Poultry Equipment for Sale - Beech Meadow Farm Discontinuing Poultry Production

Hello Fellow OEFFA Members,

I wanted to advise the list that Beech Meadow Farm has Pastured Poultry production equipment available for sale. We will not be producing pastured poultry in the future and have most of the equipment required to setup a new producer with the capacity to produce 300 bird batches on about a 4-5 week pasture rotation. This equipment is available just in time to avoid building those pasture pens that you just don't have the time to do this spring!

Here's what we have for sale:

  * 6 pasture pens (photos in link): capacity - 50 cornish cross to finish @ 4.25 lbs processed weight. These are partially collapsible for transport and include tarps and ball-ties used to cover securely. Have only been used for 1-2 years.

  * Pair of custom welded steel pen dollies (photos in link): these the axles of the pens and allow movement in all four directions by hand. Eliminates permanent wheels or straps on the pens. These are as described by Salatin in pastured poultry profits and really make moving these pens a breeze and keeps losses down. Have only been used for 1-2 years.

  * Plasson Bell Waterer Systems - we've got at least 6 of these setups (waterer, bucket, tubing, etc.) enough for each pen as well as some for use in the brooder. These are not cheap, but are almost completely problem free and alllow for watering the pasture pen only once a day even in the hot summer months. Have only been used for 1-2 years.

  * 48" High x 164' long Double Spike Premier Poultry Net Fencing: 6 of these are available and are excellent movable predator protection for your pastured poultry production area. They can also be used to control the ranging area of hens, Turkeys or other poultry. All of these were purchased in the last 1-2 years. A great investment in reducing losses. Includes 5 extra power posts for each length of fencing for additional support/strength.

  * Poultry Transport Crates: 23 are available. Standard yellow plastic poultry transport crates in excellent, very clean condition. Purchased new and only used for 3 years.

  * Kuhl Hanging Feeders: at least 12 available. Require 2 per pasture pen to allow for once a day feeding at peak size. Hang from pasture pen so feeders do not require removal from pens during move.

  * FRP Brooder Hoops: basically a large plastic hoop providing an easily cleaned surface to make a safe brooder for 50-100 chicks each. Durable and easy to use for floor based brooding of large quantities of chicks. During typical pasture poultry season these can be used in any suitable building with heat lamps to successfully brood chicks with minimal losses.

  * Miscellaneous equipment such as heat lamps, heat bulbs, small feeders/waterers for chicks, etc. are also available. Please contact us for full details.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to get into the business for relatively little work on constructing equipment and obtain the necessary materials. We successfully produced 1200 chickens and 100 Turkeys using this equipment in 2010. Ideally we would like someone who would purchase this as a package and would provide the best deal for that, but we're certainly open to purchase of individual items or groups of items as well. Preference will be given to the purchase of the largest group of items.

We are asking $2400 for the whole package (not including misc items) OBO. That's only a bit more than 50% of the gross sales from one cycle at full capacity (300, 4.25 lb whole chickens we sold @ $3.75lb)!

Here are some recent photos of the equipment taken at the farm:
