Hello everyone,

As we head into the last weeks of the spring semester, I want to alert you to a session at the upcoming Geological Society of America Annual Meeting, this Fall (Minneapolis, MN, October 9-12):

T180. Solitary Geoscience Faculty: Collaborating Outside Our Programs
National Association of Geoscience Teachers; GSA Geoscience Education Division
Kyle C. Fredrick, Abigail M.S. Domagall, Janis D. Treworgy

Solitary geoscience faculty collaborate with departments and institutions outside their program through doing research with undergraduates. If you are one of these faculty, collaborators, or students, consider sharing the successes and challenges of your experience.

I, along with Janis Treworgy (Principia College) and Abigail Domagall (Black Hills State), will be leading this session for Solitary Geoscience faculty.  This is an opportunity to share your successes and novel approaches to incorporating research into your undergraduate programs.  We are looking for faculty to contribute talks based on research projects or programs that they’ve led or been involved in that include collaborators from outside their programs.  That, almost by definition, would be ANY collaborative research, since most of us are on our own as Geologists.  The only real restriction is that it includes students from your program.  We welcome a wide array of examples, with collaborators from different disciplines at our colleges, schools (K-12 to R-1), and external agencies.  In essence, we are hoping to share ideas that our audience can choose from to take back and adapt to their own unique situations.

Please consider submitting an abstract to the session below.  We’d love to have you with us in the audience to contribute with questions and add to any discussions.

Thank you in advance.  Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Good luck with the rest of your semester and safe travels to all of you who are heading into the field this summer!

All the best,

Kyle
