Greetings from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!

Please encourage your faculty, administrators and staff to register for the upcoming 2011 Equity Conference.   The Theme of the Conference is-- The Changing Face of America: Helping Michigan Compete.

The schedule and bios for the featured speakers are on the www.diversity.mtu.edu website.  There are a variety of keynote presentations and sessions that will provide new information, strategies, and professional development for both faculty and staff. Faculty who are submitting NSF and NIH proposals, in particular, should consider attending several of the sessions.

Sample topics include the Imposter Syndrome; recruiting and retaining graduate and undergraduate students; a corporate panel on successful strategies and the value of diverse employees; mentoring;  and a legal presentation on the impact of Proposition 2 on outreach to underrepresented groups. A special session on Monday evening directed at students, but helpful to faculty and staff who advise potential graduate students, interested in preparing for the GRA will be presented by Dr. Joseph Brown from the Stanford University graduate school.

Register at  www,diversity.mtu.edu.  Bus transportation is available.
