The 1st Annual Faculty Development in International Business Conference

The Penn Lauder CIBER announces its first annual interdisciplinary Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) Conference. This event will address the pressing need for more highly qualified international business faculty with expertise in the cross-cultural, institutional, and political aspects of management. Fifteen to twenty-five participants will be selected from a national pool of junior faculty and PhD candidates from both business and nonbusiness fields, including scholars with disciplinary training in economics, political science, sociology, law and psychology. The four-day program will include presentations by leading international business faculty with interdisciplinary training, a career workshop, and extensive interactions among participants.
The sessions will cover the theoretical, methodological, and empirical tools available to faculty to do research and teach topics related to international business, with an emphasis on cutting-edge applications in the areas of foreign-market entry, organization of the multinational enterprise, cross-border knowledge transfer, multinational human resource management, strategic corporate social responsibility, corporate diplomacy and the overall competitive strategy of firms that operate in multiple markets.
Application Information
The conference will be organized as a series of in-depth seminars for a select group of 15-25 participants who aspire to move from a background in a disciplinary-based education or program into the field of international management. Applications should include a current CV, up to three working papers or publications on international topics and any syllabi of courses taught or for which the applicant served as a teaching assistant. Expenses
The registration fee of $1,000 includes free housing which is offered from May 17 to May 20 at the Sheraton Hotel University City a few blocks from the University of Pennsylvania campus. Breakfast, lunch, and one group dinner are also provided. Other expenses including transportation to/from the University of Pennsylvania campus are the responsibility of the participants. A limited number of $500 scholarships are available for participants from underrepresented groups or underfunded colleges and universities.
