Dear farmers, ag entrepreneurs and those interested in
learning more about our food system,
Dan Rossman, Extension educator and organic farmer is
hosting a farm tour in the western part of our great ag state. Please read on
and share this opportunity with your friends. I hope that you can join us, even
for one of the 2 days.
A two-day farm tour to western Michigan is planned for
Aug. 25-26, 2010. This tour will be similar to past multi-day farm tours to
Iowa and other states. This year’s tour will showcase farm families who
have successfully explored and seized opportunities to enhance the
profitability of their operations. The stops will feature farms with
value-added ventures and are excellent examples of how family farmers are
finding ways to be more profitable.
The tour will include an on farm ethanol operation, farm
market & orchard, organic dairy with a milk share program, on farm cheese
production, a community supported agriculture operation, blueberry production,
extended season hydroponic strawberry production, hoop-house raspberry
production, sheep & wool production, poultry, pullets, eggs, &
broiler operations, soybean crushing plant, 1000 acre vegetable operation,
living roofs (plants), greenhouses, & herbaceous perennials.
The cost will be $50 or less. If you are interested
please call the Gratiot MSU Extension office at 989-875-5233 for details
and to register (space is limited). This tour is sponsored by MSU Extension,
Project GREEEN, NCR-SARE, Greenstone Farm Credit Services, and SunOpta.
Thanks,
Dan Rossman
