If you are a farmer with grazing animals or are considering investing in this type of farming you should try to attend this workshop on June 7 at the Kellogg Biological Station in Gull Lake (near Battle Creek). You will have a chance to see how the pastures are managed, how the robotic dairy operates and how the herd is managed to graze AND come in for milking via the robots.  Of course, not to mention the great opportunity to network with fellow farmers that can help build your business. 
 
 
High-Tech or Low-Tech Dairy Production? KSB Dairy Tour and Dinner
 
 
When: June 7, 2010, at 6 p.m. (Dinner), 7 p.m. (Pasture Walk)
 
Where: McCary Dinning Hall (Dinner), W.K. Kellogg Biological Station Dairy (Pasture Walk) 10461 N. 40th St., Hickory Corners, MI
  
Why: This is a great opportunity to see the KBS dairy facility in operation and to hear from project management about their efforts to optimize perennial pasture management and their experiences with the Kline irrigation system. Topics covered include: Grass-based dairying, management of irrigated perennial pastures, optimal forage species, and robotic milking. For those who would like to enjoy one of the best meals in Southern Michigan, meet us at McCrary Dining Hall at 6 p.m.

Implementing GAPs: A Key to Produce Safety Course
 
 
When: June 2, 2010 and run through June 22, 2010.
 
Where: Online
 
Why: In this online course you will learn important practices for ensuring the safety of fresh produce and the key considerations for implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs). At the end of this course, you will develop a produce safety plan that outlines the activities needed to implement functional GAPs.

Movie Night in Detroit, Featuring ‘Lunch Line’ and ‘Grown in Detroit’

What it is: As part of TAKING ROOT: 5TH NATIONAL FARM TO CAFETERIA CONFERENCE, the National Farm to School Network and Applegate Farms are proud to present two stellar films about Farm to Cafeteria issues during our double feature movie night (you don’t have to attend the conference to attend movie night). Complimentary snacks and beverages will be provided by Applegate Farms. The double feature will be followed by a Q & A with filmmakers.
