about square foot gardening (small but intensively planted gardens).
There will also be a tool drive for the Burmese Garden Project, so bring
a tool if you can.

Opening
of the Ingham County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Site
When: Starting May 6, 2010, from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. (Every
Thursday through the end of September)
Where: 5303 S. Cedar, Lansing, MI
Why: Come dispose of hazardous
chemicals free to Ingham County residence. Items accepted
include:
- pesticides
(weed killer, insecticides) *photographic chemicals
- rechargeable
batteries & cell phones *fluorescent lights and
ballasts (removed from fixture)
- cleaners & polishes
*aerosols containing product (throw
empties in trash)
- flammables (gasoline, lighter fluid, etc.)
*home repair products
(glue, caulk, etc.)
- wood preservatives *mercury (thermometers,
thermostats. Place in a
- asphalt sealer & roofing tar ziplock
bag)
- fuel oil *small propane tanks (1 pound size)
- automotive
products (brake, steering, *acids & bases (pool
chemicals, toilet bowl cleaners) transmission fluid) Do NOT bring *oil
paint & paint products
(thinner, mineral waste oil or antifreeze. NO LATEXspirits, stains)

Container Gardening

MSU
Student Organic Farm Tour
When: May 10, 2010,
from 3:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
Where:
Michigan State University, Student Organic Farm, 3291 College Rd., Holt,
MIWhy: Come tour the MSU Student Organic Farm (SOF) and
see what all it has to offer. The SOF has six hoophouses, which are
passive solar greenhouses. The farm operates a year-round CSA program
and sells some green and other vegetables. The SOF also has bees for
honey, chickens which provide eggs for sale, and newly acquired hogs.
