*Mother’s Day in the Indoor 4-H Children’s Garden*

Why: *Visit the Indoor 4-H Children's Garden with your mom and make
something special! This is a self-guided event.

 *Mushroom Cultivation Workshop*

When:* May 29, 2010, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Where:* 4432 Hamilton Ave, Northside Cincinnati

*Why:* This workshop focuses on the cultivation of edible mushrooms using
different methods of propagation both indoor and outdoor. Topics of interest
include:

   - Medicinal properties of mushrooms
   - Growing mushrooms in gardens and food forests
   - Remediation properties of fungi
   - Benefits of mushrooms in gardens and farming
   - Log and straw cultivation


Followed by a mushroom foray in Parker Woods.

 *KBS Grazing and Pasture Management Workshop*




*When: *June 2, 2010, from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

*Where:* Kellogg Biological Station, Academic Building Auditorium, 3700 E
Gull Lake Drive,

Why: *This one day workshop will teach you the principles of grazing and
pasture management, combining lecture and hands-on learning that is
appropriate for the novice or experienced grazer. Includes a tour of the KBS
robotic milking dairy facility.

How: *Cost: Pre-registeration $30 per person ($25 second participant from

*Kellogg Biological State Agricultural Research Field Day*


*When: *September 8, 2010, from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

*Where:* KBS Farming System Center, 9702 N. 40th St. Hickory Corners, MI
*
Why:* In the morning choose between a field crop research tour (cover crops,
perennial wheat, agriculture and water quality), or pasture dairy research
tour (robotic milking, dairy cow behavior, and grazing ecology). Includes a
BBQ lunch and research poster session (highlighting research from Michigan
farmers, MSU Extension educators, and KBS graduate students and post-docs).
In the afternoon learn about biofuels research (hybrid poplars for biofuel,
sustaining the soil and water, and agronomic of bioenergy crop production).

How: *Cost: $5, register onsite. Free admission to the Kellogg Bird
