*Farmers Wanted in S.E. Michigan

*

Fair Food Network is looking to identify farmers who want to participate in
a new program through farmers’ markets in S.E. Michigan. People who
participate in SNAP and other related programs will be able to buy double
their money's worth of fresh foods at participating farmers markets this
spring. FFN is working with the USDA to identify as many potentially
interested farmers as possible.

We need your help finding Michigan farmers and their contact information.

If you are interested or know anyone you think might be, please contact

*Portable Chicken Mini-coop Plan

*

Are you tired of pets that don’t contribute financially to the household? If
so, I have the perfect solution for you, CHICKENS! They are free ranging,
outdoor loving, and most impressively egg producing creatures. Visit
www.michiganorganic.msu.edu under the animal and pasture tab, to read the
article Portable Chicken Mini-Coop Plan. Here you will learn how easy it is
to construct your very own chicken coop. With your own chickens you will
have a greater piece of mind knowing where your eggs come from, and that
your chickens are free range. Visit www.motherearthnews.com to learn more
about raising chickens and other green living tips.

*Growing produce for the Food Bank

*

Local producers wanted to grow for the Greater Lansing Food Bank (GLFB) and
nearly 60 agencies we support in the tri-county region. This past year the
GLFB began a voucher program that provides $5.00 redemption value for fresh
produce at some local grocers and farmers markets. The cost of the program
is high, but the impact is great. The GLFB wants to explore reducing the
cost of buying retail while supporting the local economy. They are looking
into understanding what will work best for farmers while still meeting the
needs of those they serve. The GLBF intends to hold a meeting with
interested farmers from the tri-county region to discuss the opportunities
before releasing a request for proposals.
