Here is the information about summer associate
Shared Youth Vision Partnership Literacy Project Summer Associates will
work with four Detroit Literacy Councils for 8-10 weeks (starting between May
and June). They will also work to build long term capacity to continue to deliver
high quality direct literacy services to adults and youth. The Summer
Associates will work in communities with a 22.2% unemployment rate, 75% drop
out rate and with a 39.5% female single headed families in poverty (Michigan
Economic and Workforce Indicators Report 2009). The Summer Associates will
provide education services centered on basic literacy, GED preparation and
employability skills.
The expected outputs and outcomes for the Shared Youth Visions
Partnership Literacy Project are as follows:
Output: Increase access to the basic literacy tutorial services
utilizing one to one and small group tutorial services, technology and
instruction for tutors and learners.
Outcomes: Increase the number of clients served by 25%-50%.
The volunteers will perform a variety of program activities. In an
effort to serve the needs of those least literate in the community, the Summer
Associates will:
Stipend: Summer Associates will receive a stipend of. $936 per month
and a choice of the following at the end of service
Qualifications:

18 years of age or older
·
Some College
·
Must be self-motivated, assertive,
and be able to work independently and with others
·
Must have a passion for literacy
and working with youth and adults in poverty
·
Cannot have another job while
working as AmeriCorps VISTA
·
Ability to work with people from a
variety of backgrounds
