General Summary Develop, administer, and evaluate an integrated program of pre-college academic services, including GEAR UP/College Day (Federal and State grant) Program, Summer Incentive Program and Wade McCree Scholarship Program.  

 

Essential Duties Administer the GEAR UP/College Day Program (GU/CD) that introduces economically disadvantaged middle and high school students and their parents to the potential of a college education through programming provided in their schools and at Eastern Michigan University

Administer the Summer Incentive Program (SIP) that provides an intensive summer semester including classes, work, mentoring, developmental workshops, academic support and a residence hall living experience for academically at-risk high school graduates who are provided a conditional admission to EMU contingent on satisfactory completion of the SIP program.

Coordinate and administer the Wade McCree Scholarship Program associated with Detroit Public School System to encourage high school students to graduate from high school and attend college in the state of
Michigan.

Interview, hire, train, and evaluate the performance of student staff employed in each program.

Maintain and revise databases of program participants. Evaluate databases? effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.

In conjunction with HLC Director and Office of Research and Development, develop the GU/CD grant budget, monitor expenditures and write reports.

Monitor expenditures for Summer Incentive Program.

Develop and maintain policies and procedures manuals for programs administered.

Attend State and Federal events and conferences as required for GU/CD program.

Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and
Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.

Perform related department duties as required.   Qualifications A master's degree in secondary education, special education, reading, counseling or related educational field is required.

Two years experience working with academically and/or economically disadvantaged 12-18 year old students is required.

Supervisory and budget experience is required.

Experience in providing tutoring, learning assistance, or remedial/developmental programs in a college environment is desirable.

Grant writing experience is desirable.  

Working Conditions Work is performed in a typical office environment.

Experience working in academic retention programs  

Salary Range Low to mid 40’s
