Faculty Position in the University of Arizona College of Science  
Teacher Preparation Program

Position Summary
The University of Arizona seeks to fill a tenured/tenure-track  
position in the College of Science Teacher Preparation Program (CoS  
TPP). This hire will continue the growth of the program, which is an  
interdisciplinary undergraduate program specifically designed to  
prepare science majors to be successful middle and secondary teachers.  
Faculty members in the program teach science pedagogy courses at the  
undergraduate and graduate levels and maintain an active research  
program in initial teacher preparation. Rank and tenure home will  
depend upon the credentials and experience of the successful  
applicants. Anticipated start date is August 2010. UA is a land grant  
institution with a strong commitment to research, teaching, outreach,  
and service; is an AAU member; and is classified as a very high

Qualifications
Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in a field of science  
(physical, earth, or life sciences) and/or education, as well as the  
academic credentials and record of scholarly achievement appropriate  
for appointment at the desired rank and tenure status in one of the  
participating departments. Successful candidates must also have  
experience working with preservice science teachers. Preference will  
be given to applicants with one or more of the following: experience  
in secondary (7-12) science teaching; expertise in the teaching of  
science content or pedagogy; a demonstrated record or potential for  
external funding; a strong, established, and visible record of  
scholarly activity; and leadership in development of interdisciplinary  
programs, coursework, or curricula.

Duties & Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities associated with this position are in  
initial science teacher preparation, and include teaching courses in  
the CoS TPP, advising preservice science teachers, conducting  
scholarly research in initial science teacher preparation, and  
contributing to the continuing development of the program.
Secondary responsibilities are related to involvement in the  
appropriate content department and may include teaching content  
courses, conducting science education or science research, and  
contributing to content course reform and development.
