Hmmm, and it doesn't look like they have any plans to produce a "local" version of it either :( I hope MSU doesn't end up frowning on that since this would enable a feature we've all been waiting years for.

That ability requires using a cloud service offered by Microsoft. A quote from:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638083(EXCHG.140).aspx

"Federated Sharing uses Microsoft Federation Gateway (MFG), a cloud service offered by Microsoft, as the trust broker between two federated organizations."

Yes you can share calendars. You can even share address books.

This is awesome that others are actively looking to move to 2010. If MSU as a whole won't install Exchange, at least individual units are doing so and if I understand the feature correctly, we can still share calendars between separate domains.

I just email the release manager to see if he will give me the release date. We have been in production for about two months now. The BES & Symantec Backup servers don't work with 2010 yet. I have been running the beta version of Backup Exec and they still have a few bugs to workout. BES update will work with 2010 30 days from Microsoft release date. Once the BES is updated will be turning off our 2007 server.

I've been looking for this too. Even the Exchange blogs aren't very clear. I read some reports that it'll be released at Tech-Ed Europe on Monday.

Has anyone heard any final, official release dates? Google isn't being very informative today.
