Ingham County MSU Extension Presents:  Where's the  Grass-Fed Beef?

 

Time: 6:00 p.m.

Location: Maynard Beery Farm, 849 N. Aurelius Rd., Mason

Cost: $10/person, $5 for additional family members

Join us as we learn about using annuals to increase mid-summer pasture productivity, low-input pasture renovation strategies, frost-seeding, livestock handling systems, direct-marketing and more!

 

 ‘Grass-fed’ beef has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially among those who are health conscious or have philosophical reasons for not wanting to consume conventionally produced beef. 

On July 15, 2009, at 6 p.m. the Mid-Michigan Grazing Group will be meeting at the farm of Maynard Beery, an Ingham County producer of grass-fed beef.  Maynard currently has 55 head of cattle on about 40 acres of perennial pasture and 25 acres  of annual forages.  His livestock receive no grain supplementation.  The annual forages currently in use and planned for use this season include various combinations of sorghum X ,   sudangrass, corn, soybeans, turnips, teff, and oats.  Come join us as we learn about a unique pasture system for grass fed beef and options for direct marketing!
