Dempster, Park Ridge, IL 60068, 847-825-4484, [log in to unmask] This session highlights collaborations with high schools that lead to students entering the geosciences, including dual credit, high school teachers offering courses for college credit and dual enrollment, high school students attending college classes. Rationale GSA Council recently approved a memorandum to support dual-enrollment and dual-credit courses. Dual-enrollment courses are taught for high school students by college faculty, commonly at the university. Dual-credit courses are taught in high school by qualified high school teachers. A growing number of collaborations are demonstrating success and serve as national models to increase literacy in the geosciences and attract students to geoscience careers. This session will highlight currently existing successful collaborations and encourage institutions to explore these options. The abstracts deadline is midnight (Pacific Time), 11 August 2009.
