Hi Scott,

I could call the help desk, but I'm hoping that someone from the mail
team will post to NAG and provide us with a better understanding of the
impact of what happened this weekend. I know for a fact that no
external emails were coming through to my MSU address for a period of at
least 24 hours, Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. I also know
that I wasn't the only one effected, I communicated with several users,
all of whom confirmed the situation. The problem was resolved late
yesterday afternoon, and new mail began coming in once again. The thing
is, I'm reasonably certain that I should have received at least a few
messages during the trouble period; However as of yet I haven't seen any
messages trickling in from that time.

How global was this issue? Did it effect all users of the mail system?
Are people seeing the volume of email they would normally expect in
their inbox from Saturday to Sunday Afternoon? Do I need to notify my
users that there is a possibility some messages could have been lost?

Thanks for any info,

al

Al,
If you call the help desk back they should be able to get your question
answered.

Subject: [MSUNAG] Story on the Mail Outage?

Just curious as to what the story is on this weekend's mail outage?
I called ATS today because I noticed that I hadn't gotten any external
email since yesterday afternoon. Case number 38773 was created and as
of about an hour ago, external mail began to come in once again. It
would seem that the problem is fixed; but my concern is for any mail
sent during the trouble period? in the comments for the case, I saw
reference to MX13 being down. Can we expect messages sent yesterday to
trickle in as servers retry delivery, or are they just gone?

Thanks,

Al Puzzuoli
