1.  Five positions open to serve on the National Organic Standards Board

There are five positions available to serve on the National Organic Standards Board. If you have ever considered sharing your thoughts with the NOP then you may want to consider. It is a five year commitment which includes 2 DC meetings/year (expenses covered by USDA) and conference calls monthly or periodically. Please read on if this opportunity interests you. Application due by July 17, 2009.

5 Positions

·         Organic Producers (2 positions)

·         Retailer (1 position)

·         Organic Handler (1 position)

·         Environmentalist (1 position)

All applicants are required to commit to 5 years volunteer membership. Most NOSB work is completed through committees on monthly or periodic conference calls, and may also require additional independent time researching issues and drafting documents. There are 2 public meetings per year (fall and spring to Washington D.C.) USDA is responsible for arranging hotel accommodations and pays for airline reservations. Members receive reimbursement for travel and per diem expenses.

Qualifications:

Individual seeking appointment of the NOSV must be

·         An owner or operator of an organic production operation, an organic handling operation.

·         A retail establishment with significant trade in organic products, or must be expertise in areas of environmental protection and resource conservation that relate to organic agricultural production.

Required Documentations:

·         Signed Background information form

·         Written nominations

·         Cover letter and Resume

All original documents must be postmarked on or before July 19, 2009.
