I will say Google has made strides over the past year in terms of being as transparent as they reasonably can be when they have an outage, how long they last, how many users are affected, and at least a reasonable explanation of what happened. That's a far cry better than the responses (or lack thereof) from Google in the past. It doesn't hurt that when Google goes down, the entire internet notices within seconds, of course. -Brian ----- Brian Adams Technical Director 33 Auditorium Department of Theatre Michigan State University East Lansing, MI 48824 http://five.sentenc.es/ On Thu, May 14, 2009 at 6:33 PM, Richard Wiggins <[log in to unmask]>wrote: > Wow. > Everything I've read and heard indicates that Google has built a global, > fault-tolerant, self-healing, low-cost file system and server cluster, > designed by the best PhDs in computer science money can buy. > > Someone once said "Complex systems fail in complex ways." > > /rich > > > On Thu, May 14, 2009 at 3:13 PM, Harper, Chris <[log in to unmask]>wrote: > >> Anyone notice Google and the ‘net in general was a little slow earlier >> today? >> >> >> >> >> http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2009/05/14/google-says-googlefail-outages-are-over/ >> >> >> http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/14/google-confirms-problems-accessing-its-services/?hp >> >> >> >> Just goes to show you how intertwined everything is, and Google is right >> at the center. >> >> >> >> *Christopher M.
