1. Organic Gardening Class
For Earth Day MOFFA is co-sponsoring an Organic Gardening class for suburban gardeners at Oakland University on Saturday, April 25, 2009. The class will run from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Oakland Center; cost is $35/person or $60 per couple in advance or $40/student or $70 per couple at the door. The class will cover the following topics: 1. what is organic? 2. Appropriate tools for organic gardening 3. Soil tests, composts and manure, minerals for fertility. Attendees will have ample time to ask questions both during and after the class.
Fees for the class will include handouts and a voucher for a free organic vegetable plant. Attendees are also expected to bring a bag lunch and drink. 2. Cornell Soil Health Train- The Trainer Workshop
The Soil Health Workshop will be August 10-14, 2009 at Cornell University Campuses, Ithaca and Geneva, NY. I your interested about learning how to measure soil health, improving soil health, or holistic soil management this workshop is for you. The Cornell Soil Health Program has developed cost-effective methods for soil health assessment, targeting important soil processes such as aeration, drainage, root growth, disease pressure, nutrient release, etc. Specific management recommendations are also suggested to address identified soil health constraints.
