MSUNAG,
I have forwarded these e-mails to the Project team supporting the implementation.  They are in the process of creating responses to these and other questions.

They have also added the MSUNAG list as a group of people who will need to be included in various communications.

As a person who has been through a very large implementation in the recent past (changing the General Ledger, cross charging and time recording for a Fortune 500 company), I would request you to ask your questions and then let the team work through all of the answers.

As large implementation go, they often have many “moving parts” which need to be coordinated,  so if they don’t get back to you “right away,” it might be that they have to work yours or other questions through the Project teams processes, which will be prioritized based upon the team and the sponsors priorities, which might be different than ours.  Having said that, in my experience, we were looking for people to work with us as we deployed the various systems.  I imagine that the team here is looking for our support as well.

So, I would suggest that we gather up any questions that we might have and provide them to the team as soon as possible.  We should also be supportive with testing and such as they might need that assistance, especially if something is specific to a college or business unit, since the team might not have all of the testing environments to support these specific unit requests.

In that way, we can all stay informed and assist the team in meeting the deliverable dates for this very large project.

Regards,
Jeanne

I have a related question:
What are the requirements for hardware that will be needed?

For example: It’s reasonable that one would need a pretty good scanner to scan in receipts etc since this will be a web based system.    As we prepare for this system, are there other hardware items that one should consider?  Another one that came to mind is a dual monitor or extra wide monitor setup.

Subject: Re: [MSUNAG] New Accounting System Question

Lee:

The new system will go into production 1 July 2010.  The new chart of accounts and ledger string will be introduced soon, this spring, so that units can begin planning how they want their accounts to be structured, and what detailed information they may wish to embed in the customizable portions of the ledger string to support their accounting information needs.

The answer to your second question is generally "yes", but the exact details will depend on configuration and access control choices, the parameters of which are not yet established.  The finance team has this on their to-do list.
