Hello NAG
Just as Stephen Asman reported,  I have also found several occasions were Open Office would open an MS Office 2003 document which could not be opened in MS Office 2003.  I believe that I traced this problem to flaws in the MS Office 2003 Spell checker.   If you turned off the auto spell checker in Office 2003 the documents would open in MS Office again.

Re: [MSUNAG] Office 2003 or 2007?

I use Open Office at home and occasionally here at the office.  OOo 3 will open O2k7 documents, but with some formatting issues.  Interestingly, in the past I have encountered corrupted MS Office documents that MS Office won’t open but OOo will. After making a minor edit and resaving the document in its original format MS Office would open it again.
