Are you talking for a warrantied failure or a screen replacement? Cracked screens aren't covered under warranty, so in that case Apple might do a referral or they may have you send them into the depot. For warranty failure they send an overnight DHL box and you simply insert laptop and mail back - usually 1 week turnaround on it.

line, and they have referred me to the local shop list, which all
charged money to complete the job.
