Has anyone with authority to negotiate checked into the current status of a campus license? As I recall the terms were aimed at non-production boxes and desktops when Red Hat first offered it. Installing a Red Hat satellite or proxy server was required to handle the licensing. There is an interface through RedHat Network to track and manage your licenses and "entitlements" over the web. It's not as user-friendly as we would like. Where are you getting that $50 price? We're paying $60 (per year, per server) off this link: https://www.redhat.com/solutions/education/academic/individual/
