SPSS 16.0 is REALLY buggy, even after installing the 16.0.1 patch and the three existing hot fixes. Save yourself some hassle, and wait a while before upgrading from 15.0. I've wasted most of a day already this week just trying to get it to work properly. As per SPSS tech support, more hot fixes are in the works; they know there are a lot of problems to be resolved. I had to use the email authorization; the Internet authorization does not work. SPSS15, fine, but not 16. What happens is during the authorization, I get a delay of about 30 seconds, and then an error message saying that the authorization was denied. Not terribly useful. Perhaps I didn't notice it before, but I got what looked like a Java JRE error message. All the machines I tried this on were patched XP systems. Is there a requirement for some level of Java now that I didn't clue in on, for SPSS? Or is SPSS torturing me just because it can... ? tnx, STeve Andre'
