Good points all, In conjunction with NAG, I think a collaboration tool such as vBulletin would be on of the better solutions to help take the load off of MSUNAG for continuing discussions and documenting solutions. Chat definitely has some advantages of getting an instant reply. Although using IRC might not be the most productive way to spend time, it seems that conversations often get sidetracked and end up taking much longer than looking for a solution at a forum. In addition the same questions might get repeated in a real time environment with no means to research the chat communications. As far as Angel it seems a bit awkward and limited to use for a forum of this type. Another possible concern with ANGEL could be its lifespan on campus. What ever is decided I agree with Timo that security should be at the forefront of anything that is implemented. There once was a discussion of moving the NAG list from a listserv to Angel. On one hand we had a faction that wanted to move away from e-mail as that would free that resource. However, there was a large group that wanted to maintain the "push" technology of e-mail. The comprimise was to continue the listserv but add a tag to the subject for easy filtering. I am very much against moving technical discussions away from a "push" technology to any form of forum that I would have to remember to go visit. What I like about IRC/Instant Message is that the lag from e-mail is removed, and a more lively discussion can take place. It is also a push technology, and I do not have to visit a forum. Asyncronous communication is also important, but for a different reason. As evidenced by the flurry of messages on NAG after the meeting, despite votes to the contrary, it seems that asynchronous communications are important to the group, and a forum would be a great way to keep our respective mailboxes clean, and still engage in lively discussions.
